About the company

Element #2

ILCHMANN Fördertechnik GmbH is a German specialist in bulk material handling technology based in Bickenbach an der Bergstraße. Since its foundation in 1992, the owner-managed family business has been developing, designing and manufacturing customised conveyor systems for the national and international market.

ILCHMANN Fördertechnik GmbH was founded on 14 August 1992 by Hans-Joachim ILCHMANN and his wife Gerlinde. Today, the company is managed by the second generation, Tim ILCHMANN, who has been managing director since 2014.

The company is based at Berta-Benz-Straße 4, 64404 Bickenbach, Germany. The location is strategically situated between Frankfurt am Main and Heidelberg.

ILCHMANN Fördertechnik GmbH has been certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001 since February 2009. Conveyors used in potentially explosive atmospheres are designed and manufactured in accordance with the relevant ATEX directives.

ILCHMANN has been planning, designing and manufacturing complete bulk material conveyor systems since 1992, focusing on trough chain and screw conveyors, chain and belt bucket elevators, and hygienic chain conveyors.

We specialise in conveyor technology for oil mills where oil is produced from rapeseed, sunflower seeds and soybeans – from the reception of the seeds to the conveying of meal, cake, husks and by-products.

Our conveyor systems are always designed specifically for each project, taking into account bulk materials, buildings, interfaces, ATEX and hygiene requirements, and are not off-the-shelf catalogue solutions.

We deliver our conveyor technology to Germany, Europe and worldwide and, depending on your requirements, support projects from pure delivery to technical assistance with design and commissioning.

Products and conveyor types

Element #2

ILCHMANN offers a wide range of mechanical bulk material conveyor technology: trough chain conveyors (horizontal and inclined), screw conveyors (trough and tube designs), bucket elevators (belt and chain bucket elevators as well as single-strand chain bucket elevators or belt pocket conveyors) and – in addition – various belt conveyor solutions (e.g. also corrugated edge conveyor designs) and components such as flat slides, chutes and interchangeable flaps.

The conveyor systems are suitable for a wide range of typical bulk materials, in particular: oilseeds (soya, rapeseed, sunflower seeds), grain (maize, wheat), bran, flakes, press cake, grist, powder, pellets, lignin, fertilisers and various products from the coal, cement and wood industries for industrial bulk handling.

Conveying capacities vary depending on the conveyor type and product: Trough chain conveyors typically achieve up to approx. 500 t/h or 1,000 m³/h with housing widths of up to approx. 1,600 mm, screw conveyors up to approx. 500 t/h with screw diameters of up to around 1,250 mm, and belt bucket elevators up to approx. 600 t/h with conveying heights of up to approx. 80 m (depending on the product and design).

Yes, ILCHMANN offers explosion-proof conveyor technology for ATEX areas. The comparatively low conveyor speeds and special design features make the conveyors suitable for use in extraction areas of oil mills and other Ex zones.

Yes, all conveyors can be supplied in food-grade and hygienic designs. This includes minimised dead spaces, suitable surface treatments, cleaning openings with quick-release fasteners and the use of stainless steel.

Conveyed materials and applications

Element #2

We mainly convey oilseeds and derivatives, grain and flour, mineral bulk materials, fuels, animal feed and fibrous by-products such as husks and chips.

Our systems are designed for rapeseed, sunflower seeds, soybeans, grist, flours, starch, aluminium oxide, limestone, DDGS, fibrous products and many other bulk materials.

Aluminium oxide, limestone, coal, foundry sand, shell products and, in some cases, bran are particularly wear-intensive, which is why we provide reinforced and wear-resistant designs for these materials.

High bulk densities occur in particular with stones and earth, limestone, foundry sand and many other conveyor goods, and therefore require correspondingly strong conveyor components (chains and drives).

Sticky, bridge-forming or very dusty products such as soy flour, pomace, flours in general, shells or dust products place special demands on geometry, discharge aids, cleaning and dust removal.

High throughputs are required above all for grain, rapeseed, soybeans, DDGS and corn products, for which we use chain and belt bucket elevators as well as trough chain conveyors with large cross-sections.

Oil-containing products such as rapeseed and soybean meal, grist, cake and starch products can heat up or react when exposed to increased friction or temperature, which is why we provide low speeds and temperature monitoring.

Grain, flour, starch and soy or rapeseed products for the food industry require hygienic designs with suitable materials, seals and cleaning options.

Flour, flakes, shell products, DDGS, aluminium oxide and foundry sand generate a lot of dust and require dust-tight designs with suitable dust extraction connections.

Bulky, light or fibrous products such as wood fibre, DS chips and soybean hulls have a low bulk density and require large housing cross-sections at reduced conveying speeds.

ATEX and hygiene

Element #2

Dusty organic products such as flour, grist, flakes, starch and DDGS are particularly relevant to ATEX, requiring zone classification, low-spark design and suitable monitoring.

Yes, we supply conveyor systems in ATEX-compliant and, if required, hygienic designs with coordinated seals, inspection openings and suitable materials for sensitive areas.

Technology and quality

Element #2

All conveyors are developed and designed in Germany. Manufacturing takes place at certified contract workshops in Germany; and for large orders, additional qualified manufacturing partners abroad are also used.

Depending on the requirements, the following are used: painted or galvanised normal steel, wear- and corrosion-resistant stainless steels, HDPE or HARDOX linings for wear-intensive applications, and plastic or steel buckets for bucket elevators.

The conveyors are designed for minimal maintenance; high-quality materials, proven designs based on over 30 years of experience in the construction of bulk material conveyors and the plastic/steel friction pairing in chain conveyors ensure low-wear operation and a long service life.

The design is carried out in-house using modern CAD, FEM and DEM software. This enables precise planning, simulation of conveyor behaviour and the individual implementation of special requirements such as optimal line routing in confined spaces.

Industries and customers

Element #2

The main industries are: oilseed processing (oil mills), food and feed industry, grain handling and processing, parts of the chemical industry, as well as the coal, cement and timber industries and other industrial bulk handling.

ZIts customers include some of the world’s largest oilseed processors, including the so-called ABCD group: Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), Bunge, Cargill and Louis Dreyfus; ILCHMANN is listed as a preferred supplier for many of these companies.

ILCHMANN is mainly active in the EMEA region (from the Netherlands to Ukraine, from Norway to Egypt), but also in many other countries worldwide. It has manufacturing and distribution partners in Poland, Croatia, Ukraine and the United Kingdom.

Project process and service

Element #2

A project usually includes consulting, concept, detailed design, manufacturing and delivery of the systems, as well as support during commissioning and subsequent operation, if desired.

Yes, we are strong in retrofitting and replace or modernise existing conveyors, often with higher performance, better dust tightness and adapted safety, with as little downtime as possible.

Important basic data includes bulk material, desired conveyor capacity, lengths and heights, environmental conditions, ATEX and hygiene requirements, and existing interfaces to machines and silos.

We offer maintenance, inspection, fast spare parts supply, commissioning support and technical advice throughout the entire life cycle of your conveyor systems.

The range of services essentially includes engineering and planning, manufacturing and delivery, support during commissioning, inspection and maintenance, and repair services; the long-term availability of spare parts ensures the sustainable operation of the systems.
