Bucket elevators
The simplest form of vertical conveyor technology
Bucket elevators are known for their high conveying heights and large volume flows. They have proven themselves under the most extreme operating conditions and offer numerous advantages for various industrial applications. Here you will find a comprehensive overview of the properties, technology, designs and special versions of bucket elevators.
Advantages of bucket elevators
Bucket elevators offer a number of advantages that make them the preferred choice in many industrial applications.

The most important advantages at a glance
- Completely enclosed housing:
Protects the conveyed material and the environment from dust and contamination. - High operational reliability:
Suitable for 24/7 operation under harsh conditions. - Low maintenance:
High-quality materials reduce the need for maintenance and repairs. - Large conveying heights:
Up to 80 m centre distance possible - Gentle product transport:
The material is transported in the buckets. - Energy efficiency:
Low resistance ensures energy-saving transport.
The technology of bucket elevators
Bucket elevators are technically sophisticated and can be optimally adapted to the respective application. The technology comprises various components that are crucial for efficient operation.
Becher
Buckets
As the carrying element, the buckets are the essential component of a bucket elevator. Depending on the application, the buckets can be made of normal steel, stainless steel or plastic.
- Plastic buckets:
The preferred choice for grains. Lightweight, durable, non-sparking. - Steel buckets:
Temperature-resistant, chemically resistant
Zugorgan
Drive mechanism
The buckets are pulled either by an elevator belt or a elevator chain.
Advantages of elevator belts:
Rubber belts run particularly smoothly and bend easily around the drum.
Advantages of elevator chains:
High breaking loads allow the transport of heavy or bulky products.
Spannfuß
Tensioning foot
To ensure straight and smooth running, tension is maintained in the foot by a threaded spindle or weight tension.

Bucket elevator designs
Bucket elevators are divided into two main designs, each of which is suitable for different applications.
Gurtbecherwerke (GBW)
Belt bucket elevators (GBW)
GBWs can quickly and efficiently overcome great heights and are particularly suitable for light and dry materials. Further advantages include low drive power, low wear and quiet operation.
- Conveying height: Up to 80 m
- Belt widths: Up to 1,500 mm
- Conveying capacity: Up to max. 600 t/h
- Conveying volume: Up to max. 1,000 m³/h

Chain bucket elevators (KBW)
Thanks to their robust design, KBWs are suitable for more demanding applications such as temperatures above 100 degrees, heavy bulk materials or particularly corrosive products.
- Conveying height: Up to 40 m
- Bucket width: Up to 1,250 mm
- Conveying capacity: Up to max. 400 t/h
- Conveying volume: Up to max. 700 m³/h
Pressure relief for dust explosions
Dust is stirred up during loading and discharge of the bucket elevator, which can lead to ATEX zones inside the bucket elevator.
Our bucket elevators are equipped with explosion pressure relief devices appropriate for the application.
The housing is reinforced to withstand the reduced explosion pressures.

Other special designs
- Positiv discharge chain bucket elevator:
Gentle gravity discharge by redirecting the chain via a third pair of sprockets. - Buckets with a hardened steel digging edge at the front.
- Buckets with air holes for improved emptying of powdery products.
- Round bucket elevator base ensures better hygiene thanks to reduced dead space.
Conclusion
Thanks to their robust construction, low maintenance requirements and wide range of customisation options, bucket elevators offer an ideal solution for material transport in various industries.
With the right components and designs, they can be individually tailored to specific requirements, making them an indispensable element in conveyor technology.
